There are a lot, but really: a lot, different colours of the Caladium. From white to pink or pink-green and every colour in between. The Caladium is one of the most popular plants at the moment and that is not surprising. We mean, look at those gorgeous leaves! In this blog we explain how you can take care of your Caladium. And if you do not own one, you probably want to after reading this blog 😉
Best place for your Caladium
You can say Caladiums are little diva’s, since they have quite a lot of demands. But believe us: it is totally worth it. If you treat your Caladium with good care, it will reward you with pretty leaves. It starts with the right place in your home. If you want your Caladium to stay beautiful, you should put it at a place with indirect light/half shadow. The leaves of the Caladium will burn with direct sunlight and that would be a shame. If you still see dry, brown spots on het leaves, the plant probably still stands at a place with too many light. If this is the case, place your plant to a spot with less light.
Caladiums and humidity
This beauties love it when the humidity is high, because they orginally come from the tropics. Some houses have high humidity from itself, but if you are unlucky and have a house with low humidity there is no reason for panic. You could raise the humidity by placing a humidifier in your room. If you do not want to do this, it is also an option to spray around the Caladium with water. But be careful: too much water on the leaves could lead to brown stains. So do not spray directly on the leaves.
Caladiums and water
Caladiums like it when the soil is moist, but not wet. How many water you should give your plant depends on the season and how many leaves it has. You should water the Caladium on a regular base during spring and summer. Does your Caladium has a lot of leaves, you probably should water it multiple times a week. The plant loses its leaves during fall/winter. Once it lost all its leaves you could stop water it.
Five stages of a Caladium
Did you know the Caladium has five stages? From taking a nap during the winter to enjoying it during the summer. Don’t throw away the Caladium-tuber during the fall/winter when the plant loses all its leaves, but store it in a cool and dry place. You could plant the tuber again in the spring in a pot with fresh soil. Our Caladiums come with an little booklet which describes all the stages of the plant.
Before you run to a garden centre nearby you, you need to know this. Do you have pets or little childeren and there is no possibility to place the plant on a place they cannot reach? Think about buying one of these beauties, because they are toxic.
