Fittonia verschaffeltii is a particular plant with its fine and mosaic-like leaves. It is a compact plant and does not grow much higher than the pot. Water the plant once a week; prevent the plant from constantly being in wet soil. This plant needs light, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight.

Fittonia belongs to the family of the Acanthaceae. Included in the Fittonia family there are two varieties; the verschaffeltii, is the small-leaf variety, and the superba is the large-leaved variety. The Eden Collection only includes a compact small-leaf variety. This plant is originally a ground cover plant that grows in the tropical regions of Peru in the shade of tall trees. Breeding has resulted in this Fittonia plant being able to tolerate temperatures above 10°C.
